This will be asuch an exciting tour! Led by the highly entertaining
Michael Barrett, we will do a combination walking/driving tour to learn
about the families that build these gorgeous resting places. We hope to
take a rare peek inside 1 or 2 of these beautiful memorials.
Memorial Day Ecumenical Service
Saturday, May 25, 9am FREE
Join Oakwood Cemetery and the Veterans of Lansingburgh for their annual
graveside Wreath Laying Ceremony, and the placement of flags on the
gravesites of Veterans in the Soldiers' Plot. Oakwood President Tom Maggs
and fellow trustee Charles R. Johnson, Col. US Army Ret. will officiate.
The service will be brought indoors in case of heavy rain only.
Registration is not required.
Spring Bird Walk
Saturday, June 1, 8am-10am $12.00 pp
Oakwood is home to more than 70 species of birds. Clint Anglin, Naomi Jaffe
and Heidi Klinowski will lead this annual tour. Previous year's birds have
included bluebird, oriole, indigo bunting, red-tailed hawk, bald eagle, and
six species of woodpecker. Bring binoculars & wear comfortable shoes. A few
loaner binoculars may be available. Beginners welcome. Rain date: June 2nd
Special Event: Unveiling of Troy Burial Site Memorial
Saturday, June 8, 10am-12pm Free
Please join us as we honor the 163 people who were re-interred from the Troy
Burial Ground in downtown Troy in 1875. Hear their special story and see their
beautiful new memorial unveiled. Representatives of the Daughters of the
American Revolution will lay a wreath in honor of soldiers bureid in this
section. Following the ceremony, we invite you to join us for a short walking
tour of the area. Donations are optional but appreciated!
