EDGAR ALLAN POE Returns to Oakwood!!!
Saturday, October 19, 3pm-4pm $15.00 pp
We are excited to welcome back literary historian Rob Velella with a new program! Poe was never friends with Herman Melville, who once lived in Troy, but the two authors wrote on similar themes. Today Poe will focus on his own tales featuring adventure (and disaster) at sea. Poe is portrayed by literary historian and playwright Rob Velella for his second appearance at Oakwood, which is one of four cemeteries in the Northeast offering this special program. Seating at the Earl Chapel is limited. Register now for this popular program! Call 1-800-556-6273.
Rob Velella is an independent literary historian and playwright specializing in American literature of the 19th century. As a scholar, he has published articles and presented academic papers on figures as varied as Walt Whitman, Margaret Fuller, Rufus Griswold and Oliver Wendell Holmes. In addition to Poe, he has dramatically brought to life several other literary figures including the young Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Velella also maintains the American Literary Blog (www.americanliteraryblog.blogspot.com/), an “almost daily celebration of important (and not-so-important) dates in 19th century American literary history.
