A Popular and Affordable Option
Starting at $353
Today, many people are choosing cremation as an economical and eco-friendly alternative to
traditional earth burial. Recognized by most religions and cultures, cremation is now the
second most popular means of disposition in the United States, and is the most common practice
in many parts of the world
Since 1890, Oakwood Cemetery has been providing New York's Capital District with
compassionate, professional cremation services in our
Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel and Crematory. This crematory was the 13th built in the United States, the
fifth in the state of New York and the first in the Capital District. Today, we perform more than 450 cremations annually.
The actual cremation service costs just a few hundred dollars
This service includes a basic metal canister (urn) for the cremated remains. We also
offer a
selection of more elaborate urns in both individual and companion sizes.
Your family's funeral
director can assist you with your selection.
Placement of cremated remains at Oakwood
Cremated remains may be placed in a niche, buried in a traditional cemetery lot or Urn Garden,
or kept in a residence or church. Oakwood Cemetery offers niches for urns containing cremated
remains in the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel. Cremated remains can also be buried in a traditional
cemetery lot at Oakwood, or in two peaceful outdoor settings designed specifically for the interment
of cremated remains:
- The Urn Garden, conveniently located near the Oakwood main entrance gate
- The Overlook, situated on the bluff overlooking Lansingburgh and the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson rivers.
Do you have questions about cremation? The Oakwood staff welcomes the opportunity to answer them, and explain the process to you. Call our office at (518) 272-7520, or contact us online for more information.
